Two days ago, I was prompted to update to Firefox 5. Ever since then, I have had weird problems. The main issue is that earlier today, I closed the browser and on restart, all tab/panorama groups are gone and I got a tab with my home page upon opening FF5.

How do I restore my groups? I have tried looking in history, but it's not showing everything. I had things I was working on open and really need them all back. Why did this happen?

App (pinned) tabs and Tab Groups (Panorama) are stored as part of the session data in the file sessionstore.js in the Firefox profile folder.

Make sure that you do not use Delete browsing, search and download history on Firefox to clear the "Browsing History" when Firefox is closed because that prevails and prevents Firefox from opening tabs from the previous session.

This just happened to me again. And I do not understand the reply you gave me. I just want all my tabs & groups back. Can you tell me in less technical terms how to fix this?

You can check the setting for Clear Recent History:

  • Tools > Options > Privacy > Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history"

If there is a check-mark in "Clear history when Firefox closes" then either remove that check-mark or click the Settings button and make sure that Browsing History is not check-marked.

If you use cleanup software like CCleaner then check the settings for the Firefox application and make sure that you do not remove the sessions.

  • CCleaner: Application tab - Firefox/Mozilla - "Session"

My settings are set to remember history and reopen last session. CCleaner is set correctly. This is not the problem because my settings have always been this way. Nothing has changed except for the fact that I upgraded to FF5 and then my sessions started getting erased. I cannot find the folder in Mozilla that has my sessions to even get them back. I need help. This should not be happening.
