I was trying to find an internet connection at work when our standard connection went down. when I logged on to a unsecured network that was available, somehow it changed my startup page to its own page. In addition to this, it overrides requests of certain pages like google.com. how do I get this off?

It sounds like you have gotten some malware installed that is hijacking your browser (and perhaps other things).

It is beyond the scope of this forum to give you the help you need.

I suggest you go to http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/forum22.html and follow the instructions there to submit a help request. I've heard the people there are very knowledgeable and can help you with such problems.

In the future, practice safe hex - that is, don't do things that are potentially dangerous. Also, if you don't have virus and malware detectors/removers installed, get some. If you have them, make sure they are up to date and that all options are enabled.

But - go to http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/forum22.html

They can probably help you.

had anti virus and anti malware installed and running when the page opened. I did nothing more than open the browser that had google set as default homepage after connecting to the unsecured wireless router.

Can I get a virus this way?

By the way, everything works perfect if I use Internet Explorer instead, I can get to google.com. I am now logged on wirelessly back home. I can get to other sites with firefox daily but not google.

Found the solution. You have to clear your cache and cookies.... duh.

Hope this helps others.....
