Hello,

Since upgrading to 78.6.1 yesterday, my TASKS list that displays alongside my Calendar is listing all my tasks going back to when they were first created. I have gone through all of them 3 times now, ticking all the boxes to clear them off the Task list but when I restart Thunderbird they are all showing in the Tasks list again. I've tried double-clicking on an entry and then 'Edit All Occurrences', made changes and then saved again, but they all just keep reappearing in the Tasks List as if they haven't been completed??

The bug link I posted in earlier comments has information regarding the bug. I added it so that anyone could read up what is going on. Version 78.8 is scheduled for Feb 23, so unless something causes a delay it should be made available very soon.

I attempted to delete as many of these entries as I could and now Thunderbird does't load but appears to loop sucking up more and more of the memory until it crashes. Now I can't load Thunderbird. Help!

@peter430 Mine are also multiplying every time I try and do something to fix it. Seems to be duplicating each task over and over again.

Have you tried starting Thunderbird in Safe Mode to at least get back into it? https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/safe-mode-thunderbird

I have managed to revert to 78.6.0 There are many other reports of similar problems. I've also unset automatic updates!

This isn't so much a reply as a scream for help. I'm seriously considering switching to another email program, as this Tasks chaos is seriously disabling my business and, at least as far as this forum is concerned, nobody has any answers. Can anybody help???

rontiara - The bug has been picked up by the Thunderbird developers. However progress looks slow as nobody has worked on it since Friday. So who knows when it will be resolved.

Thanks, markrsmith! At least I know this isn't a dead forum!

FWIW, I found a workaround: Efficient Reminder Free (http://www.efficientreminder.com/). Its interface is very much like the TBird Tasks interface, and, at least for the last couple of days, has worked well for me.

Hello Mark, Could you please share the Bugzilla ticket number for this bug?

Hello Mark, Could you please share the Bugzilla ticket number for this bug?

Confirm I can reproduce. Bug has been marked as a P1 which gets a highest priority.

Doesn't look like much if anything has been done to resolve the bug per the responses on Bugzilla. The assigned person has not responded in 9 days.

Will see what happens when 78.7.0 is released this week. If the bug is still there time to move on to Outlook for tasks.

Workarounds: There is a way to set all as completed but only via the first creation of the Task. This would at least fix the display of completed tasks.

First make a note of % completed tasks with notes etc and Create a new Task(s) for the current tasks with the information that does not repeat. eg: In progress 50% completed. Please note I'm only suggesting this as temporary workaround.

Select/double click to open the original Task > edit all occurances - manually set Status as completed on today date 100% complete. Suggest you may want to set an end date for the repeat. SAve and close. REstart Thunderbird - all occurances still set as completed.

So manually editing the original Task in it's own window for all occurances does work as expected.

This does keep all the info and not clutter the screen.

Alternative is to delete which is a bit drastic but if you have completed the task then maybe it could be removed.

In Task tab - to remove all. Select earliest task, click delete, select delete all occurrances. Removes all. REsult : After restart remain deleted. deletion does work when using original to delete all.

In TASK tab - to remove a selected task. Select any one of the reoccuring tasks - not the original and delete. Result: after restart remains deleted. So this works.

@Toad-Hall Thanks for suggested workarounds. I had already printed out a list of all my Tasks and then delete them all that same week. Will wait for a fix and then recreate all the Tasks again.

Just upgraded to 78.7.0 and it seems the problem is still not fixed.

I'm not sure if it is not affecting me in the same way as others or if I use fewer repeating tasks than average but for me only a small number of tasks are reappearing as incomplete each time I restart Thunderbird. I've checked through a year of completed tasks and found that only the most recently completed occurrence of repeating tasks are losing the status information. Earlier occurrences and non-repeating tasks aren't reopened for me.

@komakai Thanks for feedback. Pity it doesn’t seem to be solved. I’ll upgrade too and report back any findings.

Because mail, calendar, and tasks are not a convenience, but a professional necessity, I moved over to Evolution to fill the gap while Thunderbird fixes this critical bug. Outlook is not an option for me because of privacy violations in the MS sphere. I have been with Thunderbird for many years, but this bug makes it unusable. It seems to have corrupted my mail data. I don't know how Thunderbird can fix that, even when they get the bug cleaned. I recommend you move to another mailer with tasks asap.

Update: A fix has been designed and it is currently being tested. So you can expect an update soon which will fix the issue. This is the bug report: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1686466

I've upgraded to 78.7.0 in the interim and Tasks list does seem to be behaving now with the new recurring tasks I've created. Unfortunately I had deleted all my old tasks and then recreated them so not sure if this solves the problem of older tasks marked as finished reappearing as not finished? Glad there is a proper bug fix on the way!

Update: Currently being tested in beta, so assuming things go well it should be availble in version 78.8, which will be in a little more than 2 weeks.

Does anyone have any further information on when 78.8 will be released please? It's now 18 days since Toad-Hall said it would be "a little more than 2 weeks".
