Downloads for Firefox not possible
I have a problem with the download of updates for Firefox. Normally it worked properly, but I found recently this and have no idea how to change it (and what's the reason).
- The browser is managed by your organization - Very interesting! It's my private laptop. - The administrator has disabled the download of updates.
What's that? It's my laptop and I'm the aministrator. Quiet annoying...
Thanks in advance for advice and support Stephan
PS: of course I have a firewall and Avira Software

The message about your browser being managed by an organization is not that uncommon to see, especially when you have an anti-virus program installed. Usually different security applications will setup a policy on Firefox that has to do with security certificates. Policies are most often used on business computers, which is why the message is worded the way it is.
However, it's very unusual for security software to disable Firefox updates, so my guess is that something else may be causing this. There are a couple of easy ways to check if maybe a policy was setup to disable updates.
The first is to go to the folder that Firefox is installed in. On Windows, that's usually either the C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
or C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
folder. In that folder, check if there is a folder called distribution
. If there is, open it and check to see if there's a file called policies.json
there. Rename it to policies-old.json
if there is one and then restart your computer.
If there isn't that file or folder in the Firefox installation location, press the Windows Key + R on your keyboard. Enter gpedit.msc
. This should open the Windows Group Policy Editor. If it doesn't and you get some error message about it not opening, it likely means you are running a version of Windows 10 that doesn't have that feature, which probably means that the above steps will solve your problem.
Once that is open, you will see folders on the left side of the window. Press the little arrow next to Administrative Templates under the Computer Configuration section. In that folder, there should be either a Mozilla folder. Press the little arrow next to it. Click on the Firefox folder. Now, on the right side of the screen, one of the policies should have something to do with disabling updates. Double click on it and change its value to Disabled (meaning you don't want to disable updates).
Repeat the steps but for the folders under the User Configuration section. Then restart your computer for the changes to be applied.
Hope this helps.
