Is it possible to remove favicons from the Bookmark Tool bar and bookmark pulldown menus? It'd be a much cleaner look. Not entirely sure, but it looks like someone was asking a similar question here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1258765 If by any chance pasting his contact here reaches @jscher2000 perhaps he has some input. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/user/jscher2000 Thanks!

You can possibly use code in userChrome.css to remove favicons on the Bookmarks Toolbar. On Mac you may not be able to do this in the Bookmarks menu because on Mac the main menu bar is controlled by the Mac OS.

Add code to the userChrome.css file below the default @namespace line.

@namespace url("http://www.mozilla.org/keymaster/gatekeeper/there.is.only.xul"); /* only needed once */

/* hide favicons on Bookmarks Toolbar */
#personal-bookmarks .bookmark-item .toolbarbutton-icon { display:none!important; }

It is not that difficult to create userChrome.css if you have never used it.

The first step is to open the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" page and find the button to access the profile folder.

You can find this button under the "Application Basics" section as "Profile Folder -> Open Folder". If you click this button then you open the profile folder in the Windows File Explorer. You need to create a folder with the name chrome in this folder (name is all lowercase). In the chrome folder you need to create a text file with the name userChrome.css (name is case sensitive). In this userChrome.css text file you paste the text posted. On Mac you can use the TextEdit utility to create the userChrome.css file as a plain text file (make sure it doesn't have RTF code).

You need to close (Quit/Exit) and restart Firefox when you create or modify the userChrome.css file.

Excellent. Thank you for that considerately laid out solution. Yes, they're still in the Bookmarks menu, but the Toolbar looks much better. And the creation of the folder and file were quite simple. (Mac Users, you actually have to go one folder deeper than Profiles, btw.) Very much appreciated.

Profiles is the main folder that stores profiles.ini and possibly installs.in (profile registry) and profile folders with a random name that store the actual profile data.

From what other drop-down menus do you want to remove the favicons as the code posted above will only have effect for the Bookmarks Toolbar (#personal-bookmarks).

Ah, thanks for clarifying. I have a couple folders in/on the Toolbar. The bookmarks stored in those still have the favicons. They're less visible and thus less bothersome than the ones in the Toolbar, so not really a problem. (If, however, you'd like to offer that code as well, by all means.) If my remarks about Mac Users going one deeper than profiles were confusing, here's what I mean. The following is how I got to where I created the chrome folder and userChrome.css file. Users > [MyVolume] > Library > Application Support > Firefox > Profiles > [one randomly numbered folder holding all the Profiles files]

If you aren't seeing any favicons on the Bookmarks Toolbar (i.e. not even the generic globe) then you might be using code in userChrome.css to hide these favicons.

Helpful link. Again, much appreciated.
