I recently upgraded to I am using Thunderbird version: 52.5.2.6564 on Windows 7 - and when I send an e-mail to myself I keep getting these random characters on my incoming e-mail.

I am using Thunderbird version: 52.5.2.6564 on Windows 7 system.

I open Tools - Options - Formatting - and I have long used Default Font: Arial Size: 13 which has worked fine for me.

Under Options - Advanced - Fonts & Encoding I have:

Fonts For; Latin, I also tried Other Writing System since - since Western is not available.

Under Text Encoding I have tried virtually every combination for Outgoing Mail and Incoming Mail.

Font Control is checked for: Allow messages to use other fonts - and - Use fixed width fonts for plain text messages.

When possible, use the default text encoding in replies is not checked.

HELP! And thank you, Bill Gray

change the font.... Arial is not a uniciode font and therefore is not suitable for email.

The days of windows code pages and ANSI fonts are gone.

Microsoft offer a Unicode download here https://www.microsoft.com/typography/fonts/font.aspx?FMID=1081
