Loaded Firefox today and instead of my saved session there was a page welcoming me to the new FF. I went to "settings" in order to restore my previous session but "restore previous session" was grayed out.

It seems that my previous session, and other sessions were lost or de-linked from the settings menu when the new version of Firefox was loaded. My hope is that the necessary files exist to reload my previous sessions manually.

As a side note, the old "Firefox" button also disappeared from the upper LH corner. Can that be brought back?

Hi have you tried updating to firefox 57.0.1 ? Could possibly solve the problem.

Could you go to C:\Users\(yournamehere)\AppData\Local\Mozilla and C:\Users\(yournamehere)\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla and check that all the folders are there? Both folders total size should be over 50mb.

If it's not then it's possible your installation did a clean install?

I found the sessionbackups folder which contains a few files named as:

tabmix_sessions-[date].rdf

I'm pretty sure that these contain the session information needed, but I don't know how to use these to revive a previous session. Can you help with that?
