Why is the privacy symbol not showing up on the tab?

The privacy symbol is not showing up in the tab on my surface pro but does on my desk top.

You do not see the purple mask when you are in permanent Private Browsing mode (Always use Private Browsing mode; Never Remember History).

Did you click new private window?
