Editing and Moving Bookmarks Ridiculously Slow with New Firefox 50 Came from 33
I am currently running firefox 50. I was running 30 something. My bookmarks are crawling! When I add a divider or move to another folder its painfully slow. Has mozilla rewritten bookmark coding again? Seems like my system bogs down when I am moving bookmarks. Eventually seems to run normal and I can move them around with speed.
I have Xmarks installed. But IT IS NOT set to sync automatically. I have it set to manually. I also tried restarting in safe mode, no pluings running still mass bog down.

Try to use Cut and Paste instead of dragging selected bookmarks if that is what you currently are doing.
You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database (bookmarks and history) in the Firefox profile folder just to be sure that there isn't a problem with the places.sqlite database.

Thanks for the reply. Tried the place maintenance, went through the process everything was ok. No changes in speed.
This lag in moving bookmarks did not exist in 30 versions of firefox.
Is there anyway to tap into dev team to see what has been changed?
The Places add-on says the database is fine, but editing bookmarks still is a painfully slow process. Just selecting an individual bookmark is incredibly slow. I select a bookmark and wait 10-15 second for it to light up. Now, why is this happening? This may seem trivial, but, if you use your bookmarks for research, the file can be large with lots of folders and subfolders. It is almost impossible to maintain it because the process is so slow. After reading cor-el above, I still don't understand why it's slow.
What is the file size of the places.sqlite database and what statistics does Places Maintenance show for moz_places and moz_historyvisits?
History can store a maximum of xxxxxx unique pages Table moz_places has xxxx records Table moz_historyvisits has xxxx records Table moz_inputhistory has x records Table moz_hosts has xxxx records
You can use this button to go to the current Firefox profile folder:
- Help -> Troubleshooting Information -> Profile Directory:
Windows: Show Folder; Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder - http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox
As mention by another user, I use and organize my bookmarks for research.
So just looked at my "places.sqlite" and its 50 megs!
This is from Places Maintenance. > Statistics Database size is 51200 KiB user_version is 33 page_size is 32768 cache_size is -2048 journal_mode is wal synchronous is 1 History can store a maximum of 109227 unique pages Table moz_places has 81725 records
Bump any thoughts?
