Computer crashed.. corrupt site.. do not want firefox to reopen there

my wife went to a site that threatened to corrupt hard drive.. she immediately did hard shutdown.... turned power off.. and later restarted... wanted to open firefox again.... and it took her right back to the bad page.. so tying to ensure that when we start firefox again it starts clean and does NOT restore....

I'm going to spell that out in a little more detail. As a Windows user, I apologize in advance if something I say is not applicable to Mac!

Open your Firefox profile folder

This is in the Library folder for your Mac user account:

  • (OS X 10.6) Click the Finder icon in the dock. Your home folder will be selected, (usually the name of your Mac user account). In the right side of the window, click the Library folder to open it.
  • (OS X 10.7 or above) Click the Finder icon in the dock. On the menu bar, click the Go menu, hold down the option or alt key and select Library. A window will open containing your Library folder.

Open the "Application Support" folder, then open the "Firefox" folder, and then the "Profiles" folder.

Your profile folder is within this folder. If you only have one profile, its folder would have "default" in the name. If you have multiple folders here, find the one with the most up-to-date contents.

Hide your session history files from Firefox

Look for a file named sessionstore.js which is created during a normal shutdown. If you find that file, rename it to sessionstore.old.

Look for a file named sessionstore.bak left over from ancient times. If you see one, go ahead and delete it.

Next, find the sessionstore-backups folder. Rename the folder to sessionstore-backups-old so that Firefox can't find it at startup, but you still have the files for future reference if needed.

The next time you start Firefox, it should go to the home page without attempting to restore the previous session. Success?

hi ianpetrie, you'll probably have to remove the sessionstore.js file from your profile folder: Profiles - Where Firefox stores your bookmarks, passwords and other user data
