Firefox has suddenly become unuseable. The scrolling performance is unbearably slow. It's choppy, slow, jerky and sporadic.

I have tried all the common fixes, including restarting in Safe Mode (still has issues with scrolling), resetting Firefox, changing about:config settings, turning off hardware acceleration, etc. Nothing works.

Oddly, Firefox Developer Edition scrolls fine.

I prefer Firefox as a browser but it's been plagued with issues for the last few months and it might be time to replace it altogether.

This scrolling issue renders Firefox unuseable as a browser.

Any help is appreciated.

Do you have any security software that might be causing this?

Did you try to boot the computer in Safe Mode?

Try to uninstall (trash) Firefox and do a clean reinstall.

Download a new copy of the Firefox application and save the disk image file to the desktop

Your personal data is stored elsewhere in the Firefox profile folder, so you won't lose your bookmarks and other personal data when you uninstall and (re)install or update Firefox.

Create a new profile to check if your current profile is causing the problem.

See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.

Adding my concerns to the thread. After the auto-update, browser became very slow, page loading and scrolling made the browser unusable. E.g., 5 mins to log into Gmail on a 50MB internet connection. Safe mode only marginally better. New installation of FF on Win 10 only 2 wks old. Only add-on is ABP. Then deleted FF (using CCleaner) and reinstalled using downloaded file. Now somewhat faster, but still slow.
