After installing Firefox on WIN 7 and 8.1, I cannot open any dropdown areas on any website.
I can, however, use the mouse wheel or input from keyboard. I have installed 39.0 on two desktops (WIN 7) and one laptop (8.1) and removed and reinstalled three times before giving up. It appears to have problems with Adobe Shockwave and/or Adobe Flashplayer. It could also have a problem with Oracle's Java updates. All are 64 bit computers. I just reinstalled Firefox and tried to use the manual steps; it froze the browser 3 times before it finally worked

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>
(Mac Options) key, and then starting Firefox. Is the problem still there?

I'm extremely sorry for the delay in responding.
I'm the sole officer of a burial society and I've just been swamped.
Thank you for your help.

That are problems with the Shockwave Flash plugin.
You can check for problems with current Shockwave Flash plugin versions and try this:
- make sure you have the latest Flash version:
http://www.adobe.com/special/products/flashplayer/fp_distribution3.html - check for updates for your graphics drive drivers
https://support.mozilla.org/kb/upgrade-graphics-drivers-use-hardware-acceleration - disable protected mode in the Flash plugin (Flash 11.3+ on Windows Vista and later)
- disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin
- disable hardware acceleration in Firefox

You can check for issues caused by plugins and set plugins to "Ask to Activate" on the "Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Plugins" page (plugins are not affected by Firefox Safe Mode)
