Can't get rid of safesear.ch for homepage
I can't change my homepage to yahoo, its safesear.ch. I've tried EVERYTHING: updated firefox, refreshed firefox thru troubleshooting information twice, scanned 3times(once was full scan) thru windows defender, micro-soft security safety utilities, malwarebytes & removed all unnecessary quarantine files, restarted without addons twice, went options tried all 3 "show homepage-blank page-last browser &tabs" etc.... In the grey area under options, general, homepage it won't let me type in mozilla firefox homepage, have firefox checked for default under general, also in my default settings. There is something I'm missing have read every article there is on setting homepage for firefox. Have never had this problem before with setting homepage. There's nothing downloaded in programs, checked windows update. PC is running great, no virus Toshiba Laptop windows8.1 64bit!! Can somebody PLEASE HELP ME...I would really appreciate it...........

Try this guide Safesearch.net – SafeSearch Toolbar removal instructions
Bookmark and use this; Download the Mozilla Search Reset {web link} This add-on is very simple: on installation, it backs up and then resets your search preferences and home page to their default values, and then uninstalls itself. This affects the search bar, URL bar searches, and the home page.
Settings Guard for Firefox {web link} Detects and resets changes to settings that are frequently done by add-ons and application installers.
I tried both answer's to my question. did everything both said to do, still have safesear.ch as homepage. In tools, options, general the grey shaded box where you type in your homepage(which mine is yahoo.com/signin) its not letting me type anything! Have mozilla, firefox checked for homepage, custom settings, know third parties, never check also. Is there anymore suggestions? thanx for trying really appreciate it!! CONFUSED
Hi, you seem to have done almost everything! This article will probably tell you what you already know, but try any of the malware removal links near the bottom of the page that you haven't done already - in particular AdwCleaner.
It might help to know if other browsers you may have are affected, because if they are, it will prove that it's not a FF specific problem.
It's likely that this malware was bundled with something you downloaded - uninstalling that might remove it, although you will probably have to remove the malware separately.
Have you thoroughly searched your hard drive? I suggest you enable Show Hidden Files and Folders - instructions here, then go to your hard drive, and in particular, open Users > Personal Folder (your name) > App Data > Roaming, and have a look in there - you can right click to delete, but only if you're certain it's the right file!
