After latest update (today), Firefox continually crashes. How can I uninstall this latest update? Tried creating new profiles and they also crash.

Firefox worked earlier today (August 19, 2013 about 6:30 pm EDT). When I opened Firefix after 9pm EDT, Firefox attempted to perform an update. No error was given, but now Firefox will not start. Running a Windows 8 machine with all updates and current security software with no known malware on my system.

When I try to start Firefox, the system shows the "working" circle, but then nothing. I created a new profile, and got Firefox to start, but whenever I try to go to any website, Firefox crashes.

Last 2 crash reports from today: InstallTime20130814063812 (contents: 1376962029) LastCrash (contents: 1376969373)

Firefox DID work with Windows 8 in Safe Mode (I got a message saying Firefox had not closed properly) with a new profile. If I used an existing profile, Firefox would either start and then close when I went to ANY web site, or simply not start. I should not that no CRASH REPORT was generated, simply an updated code in the LASTCRASH file.

I created a new profile, disabled all plugins, redonfigured my network security suite to not automatically start and rebooted normally. When Windows came up, I launched Firefox with the new profile, went to a couple sites just to confirm it worked, then enabled the security suite. No issues. I then re-enabled some of my plug-ins. I encountered problems again when any of the following plugins were re-enabled:

    -- Java Development Toolkit 7.0.250.16 10.25.2.16
    -- RealDownloader Plugin 16.0.2.32
    -- RealNetworks RealDownloader 1.3.2.28
    -- Shockwave for Director

With these disabled and the new profile, FIrefox is now back to working normally. Thanks!

If you have submitted crash reports then please post the IDs of one or more recent crash reports that have a "bp-" prefix:

  • bp-xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx

You can find the IDs of the submitted crash reports on the about:crashes page.

  • You can open the about:crashes page via the location bar, like you open a website, or open the crash reports page via "Help > Troubleshooting Information".

See:

Try to start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.

You can use one of these to start Firefox in Safe Mode:

  • On Windows, hold down the Shift key while starting Firefox with a double-click on the Firefox desktop shortcut
  • On Mac, hold down the Options key while starting Firefox
  • Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

There is no crash report from today. The last crash report is from 8 days ago (August 12), so would not be relevant for today. Latest files in Crash Reports folder are detailed above. Starting in safe mode yields the same results as when starting normally with newly created profile.

Hello hamcgjr, any luck if you boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support ?

in win 8 : hold Shift button and mash the F8 key, if you see the new recovery mode, choose See advanced repair options > Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Windows Startup Settings > click Restart button > Advanced Boot Options > choose Safe mode with networking.

(to enable F8 key for safe mode with networking in win 8, like 7 and vista, go : CTRL + SHIFT + ESC > File > Run new task > write cmd.exe in the run new task window > check mark the Create this task with administrative privileges > when you see the : C:\Windows\System32> continue and write the next command bcdedit /set {default} bootmenupolicy legacy > click Enter > you can see the Operation completed successfully. Now when you boot and hold the F8 you can see the Advanced Boot Options.....safe mode, safe mode with networking etc.)

(If works in Windows Safe mode then probably you have problem with other software, like security software or maybe a system driver, that is running on your computer).

thank you
