About 6 months I lost all of my email accounts physically because Profile Manager had upgraded thru time and it finally glitched with my old TB v.5. I was able to recover some of the accounts (from a previous profile backup) that just used a single profile (no matter which isp they were connected with. In profile mgr, I created 2 profiles, one named genealogy which contained 2 email accounts (not identity) called alaskalady and alaskanlady both of which had their own inbox, folders, etc. The second I called the profile websites and it also contained 2 email accounts called steesehighway and soar. I have abt 10 email addys from 2 different servers - gmail.com and steesehighway.org

I had got all the profiles working again thru the last few months, although I could still view the profiles in genealogy and websites, I could not receive email thru any of the 4 affected email accounts. I was trying to figure out how to separate those accounts into 4 different profiles. So a few days ago I updated to Tbird to latest version. I created a new folder to store the profiles. Then added a folder with the name of the profile. When I went to profile manager to Create the new profile and point it to the custom folder, it was successful, so I continued creating new profiles for each of the email accounts in the past were in single profiles. I opened up Tbird with each new profile and went thru account settings and prefernces. Note: I do not want any of my email stored on another server so I only use POP3 and have always used SSL/TSL. The gmail.com accounts work fine after copying my saved profile over, except that when in my inbox, the Local Folders show above, the Inbox, etc which is really awkward when you have a bunch of folders. NOTE: I copied and pasted from old profile to new profile with these and let them overwrite.

The accounts that are thru steesehighway.org I am having problems with. I can do same way as with gmail accounts, but none of the data shows up. I also have an extra folder called Chrome2 which contains some sub folders and some registry entries. Basically what I see in Inbox view on the left is profile name followed by inbox and trash, then Local Folders followed by trash and outbox. (opposite of what the position of the inbox was in that I described before) Basically what am seeing is the same as what I saw 6 months ago, when PM glitched and I lost all my profiles except 1 and it only contained 2 folders that had a tiny bit of info in them, I lost all the other data from that profile. My questions:

1. Do I only copy over the Mail folder and nothing else to the new profile? If not, can anyone tell me which folder and files (if there are any) that I copy over and let overwrite in the new profile?

2. I will start with the single account profiles now and get them working. Later, I will need help to separate the 2 profiles that each have 2 accounts. The genealogy one I need to save both accounts, but in the website one I only need to save the one account, but would like to save some of the folders from Soar and put them in the remaining account if that is possible.

I really appreciate any help you can give me. Sorry I am not as quick mentally or physically at 74 as I was several years back. I love Tbird and I have saved all my genealogy data I got email about 1994. I started with Netscape all those years ago and have stayed with Mozilla all these years. Thanks so much for your time and help!

Let me back up a bit. Do both of your existing profiles work, just not to receive mail. Is that correct? It sounds like everything following is really an attempt top get them to receive mail, so getting mail to arrive is the goal. Is that correct?

The 2 folders worked in the beginning, but not after the glitch when profile folders were deleted. Note that all still work at the server level with no problems, just don't work with the updated profile manager. Not getting mail was beginning of problem, then lost all the physical profile folders from hard drive. Luckily I had backed up a while back so got all folders back with loss of more recent emails. Then got all working again except for 2 profiles where each contained 2 email accounts (separate inbox, etc) Everything pointed to that specific situation being the problem after profile manager updated. Since I could not go back to an earlier version of profile manager, I was trying to figure out how to separate the 2 accounts in each of the 2 profile folders. I had continued to use all the other emails, then 2 weeks ago when I created a new profile in profile manager, then deleted the old one, it glitched again and I lost all the profile folders again from the hard drive. What I specifilcally need to know now is: 1. If I create a new profile and save it to a custom location then 2. Specifically which back up files do I copy to the new profile folders?

I am thinking I should only be copying over specific files from "Mail" and not overwriting any of the new stuff like I did before the last glitch, but not sure. Also, I had upgraded my old Thunderbird to the new version before this last glitch, yet is was identical as to what was physically deleted from my hard drive the 1st time. Thanks so much for trying to help, I am just out of ideas, let alone solutions..........

OOPS, I misspoke, I did not literallly upgrade ver 5.1, I just installed the new version in a custom folder, so I still have both versions installed, but NOT using TB 5.1 Should I have just gone the upgrade route? That might actually solve the problems. Do you know when the in the process the Profile Manager updated? Thanks for the help!
