I encountered an error when trying to download Docker Desktop for Windows 10 using Firefox 85.0.1. The error was: "C:\Users\<username>~1\AppData\Local\Temp\<some gibberish>.exe.part" could not be saved, because the source file could not be read." I have looked into it and found that I should delete the value in the network.http.accept-encoding setting from about:config. That didn't work so I tried another answer which was to delete compreg.dat from my profile folder. So according to Firefox, my profile folder is in AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<profile> in which I could not find compreg.dat. I would please like some help as I cannot download files right now from any browser.

The suggestions you posted above were for older Firefox versions and are obsolete.

It is possible that (anti-virus) security software is causing the problem. Try to disable security software temporarily to see if that makes a difference.

Ok. Thank you for the clarification. Now, however, I am now able to download again. Which is strange. Also, my anti-virus never caused problems for me in the past, so I wouldn't expect it to cause one now. Thanks anyway.
