Hello,

Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache. In order to try to fix these problems, the first step is to clear both cookies and the cache. Note: This will temporarily log you out of all sites you're logged in to. To clear cache and cookies do the following:

1. (Firefox 57 and above) Click the Library button and choose History.
   (Click the menu button and choose History in older Firefox versions.)
2. In the History menu, choose "Clear Recent History...".
3. Under "Time range to clear", select "Everything".
4. Now, click the arrow next to Details to toggle the Details list active.
5. From the details list, check Cache and Cookies and uncheck everything else.
6. Now click the "Clear Now" button.

If you use extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) that can block content (Adblock Plus, NoScript, Disconnect, Ghostery, Privacy Badger, uBlock Origin) always make sure such extensions do not block content.

Firefox shows the shield icon at the left end of the location/address bar in case Content Blocking is blocking content.

• click the shield icon for more details and possibly disable the protection

You can check the Web Console about what content is blocked

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

• do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

I already said Safe Mode does nothing.

Clearing cache also does nothing.

And mow I have to add that I’m posting this from my phone, because this site suddenly won’t even let me log in on my PC. It says I disabled cookies, which I didn’t. I also have a message in my settings that “Your organization has disabled the ability to change some options.” I’m AT HOME. I don’t HAVE an organization. Essentially, it looks like Firefox breaks more every time I open it.

A possible cause of “Your organization has disabled the ability to change some options.” is security software what uses the Windows Registry to import their root certificate in Firefox.

You can inspect the Mozilla and Firefox keys with the Windows Registry Editor in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and possibly in HKEY_CURRENT_USER with the Windows Registry Editor to see whether GPO policy rules are active.

Note that the mere presence of the "MozillaFirefox" key is sufficient to make Firefox display this notification, so if you have the Firefox key then remove it and only leave the Mozilla key or remove this key as well if it is empty.

Boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support to see if that has effect in case security software is causing problems.

I think I finally pinpointed the problem: my profile. My hard drive crashed, and I had to get a new one and do a factory restore. I then backed up the bad hard drive with a recovery tool and copied my profile to my new drive. My history, addons and favorites all seem to work, is there any way to selectively copy what’s working to a new profile?

Update: I'm able to import most things, but there's another problem: the address bar is broken. No suggestions of any sort. I want the dropdown with history and bookmarks to appear, but nothing. about:config looks right. It's still broken in Safe Mode too.

It is possible that places.sqlite is broken if you copied this file from the backup. Try to delete places.sqlite with Firefox closed and restore the bookmarks from a recent compressed .jsonlz4 backup in case Firefox wasn't able to do this.

I made a new profile. Instead of copying the entire folder, I only copied bookmarks, addons, etc, and Forefox seems to be running as smoothly as it did just before my hard drive crashed, which was better than it ever had before, ironically, so I still don’t understand what caused the crash (can Firefox somehow conflict with Acrobat? I had both running, and it seemed to crash while Acrobat was loading a PDF). And yes, it seems that places.sqlite was indeed corrupt.
