I am running Firefox Quantum 67.0.3 on a MacBook with MacOS Mojave 10.14.5. Every time I power off the machine, and power up, all of my bookmarks disappear. The only way fro me to get them back is to shut down Firefox, go to an archived profile and grab places.sqlite, bookmarkbackups, places.sqlite-wal, and the permissions file and copy them over to the existing profile, and bring Firefox back up. Not sure of I need all of these, but it works.

If I try to export bookmarks to HTML, I get one entry in the HTML file. If I try to backup/restore the bookmarks (in "Show all Bookmarks"), I get an error message and all of my bookmarks get wiped out.

I am thinking that the "places-sqlite" file that does contain my bookmarks, is corrupted.

Any ideas on how I can go back to using Firefox without fear of losing my bookmarks each time I power down?

Thanks, in advance, for any assistance.

Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles.{web link} I use an add-on that makes backups of my user profile, Just In Case. Unfortunately, it is not compatible with the current Firefox.

Every now and then, open the profile folder and create a copy of the current profile as is to another location on your hard drive. This way you will have a backup.

If you do this each day, you will not lose much data. This should be done with Firefox Closed.

Note: In case you need to restore from these backups, you may need to overwrite old or corrupted files.

I guess it is time for me to manually transcribe all my bookmarks and URL's and move to Chrome.

The places.sqlite file contains your History and Bookmarks. And it looks like it is corrupted.

Type about:support<enter> in the address bar.

Under the page logo on the left side, you will see Application Basics. Under this find Profile Folder. To its right press the button Show Folder. This will open your file browser to the current Firefox profile. Now Close Firefox.

Locate the above file. Then rename or delete it. Restart Firefox.

The browser should then create a new place.sqlite and recover your bookmarks from the backup files. Note: Your history is not backed up and will be lost.

Thanks, Fred.

I thought it might be corrupted because any attempt In made to back it up (either through and HTML file or .json) failed.

I took a screen shot from "show all my bookmarks" and will add them back into the new profile after I've deleted the old places-sqlite.
