I have my main address book - no problem. I have email address for my motorcycle club in a designated address file. Non participating members that have been removed from both the main list and the club list are still sent emails. I do not understand why.

First - thanks for the replies. The problem is not a software or operator issue. One of our members has been using HIS club email list to reply (instead of the requested "reply to all to keep everyone in the loop" to initial meeting emails which caused three former members on the list and two new active members off. He has been contacted. Sorry for posting a non-problem.

Perhaps the answer is to use a listserv. Yahoo groups offer them, if you ignore all the web stuff, but they are going away at some point. Or there are companies like this https://www.emaildodo.com/features.php I just googled them, I have no info about them but for $5 a years they offer a lot of ease of use for very little outlay. (Their free service puts adds into emails. I do not suggest that)

Why a listserv?

  • Because members can subscribe and unsubscribe from the mailing list themselves by email.
  • There is no need for anyone but the list administrator to be aware of any of the other members email address.
  • ALL communication is done via a central sendto email address (Something like [email protected]) and the server manages the forwarding to the members of the list.
  • Changes of responsibility only require the passing on of credential to the list management site, not the passing on of email addresses.
  • More than one person can be the "moderator" for the list.

re :Non participating members that have been removed from both the main list and the club list Please clarify. Is the 'main list' an address book or a mailing list? Is the 'club list' an address book or a mailing list? Is the 'club list' a Mailing List sub group of the 'main list' address book?

Are you creating new Write emails and selecting the mailing lists afresh or are you using an older present email or template with preset mailing list ?

Thanks for reply. I have my address book. From that address book I have a few addresses set up in another sub address book to send out notices of meetings. I noticed that I was getting replies from people that were not in my main address book or the meeting list. Looking at the replies it is obvious my email still has them as active in spite of not appearing on either list. Weird.

Check your Collected Addresses to see if there is a mailing list entry that contains obsolete contacts, even though the current list is up-to-date.

I have double checked both address book list. My BMW list has nine addresses but sends out eleven emails when I send (and I double check that there are only nine addresses for the email going out). Have no idea where to check now...

Is it possible that one of the entries in the list is itself a mailing list with 3 contacts?

more options
  • Select 'All Address Books'
  • Enable the 'Address Book' column header.
  • Sort by 'Email'

look for one of those 'email addresses' (not name) which you deleted from the Mailing List. Does it appear and if yes what address book is listed? Does it appear in more than one address book?
