Naming new bookmark folders
It used to be that when you created a new folder in bookmarks you could name it. Currently and for some time when you create a new folder it is named "new folder' and there is no option to change it. It is briefly highlighted like it is going to let you rename it but then it immediately continues. You now have to create it as new folder add your bookmark and then go to the list of bookmarks, select the properties for the "new folder" and rename it there. Why do we no longer have the capability to name it upon creation? Is there a setting I am overlooking?

Right-click on what you want to change.
My whole point was it used to be that when you created the new bookmark folder it gave you a chance to name it. It no longer does that. It currently highlights it like it is going to let you name it but it only stays that way for a fraction of a second then names the new folder "new folder" . I know the work around, I put that in my original post. What I want to know is can the bug be fixed?
Are you using Sync to sync the bookmarks?
If you use Sync then best is to disconnect Sync while performing maintenance/repair efforts to files in the Firefox profile folder.

Is using Ctrl-d to add a bookmark considered maintenance? I do use Sync. One would think that adding a bookmark folder would be normal operation, not maintenance.
We have seen issues reported many times where Sync tries to Sync the folder name before you have finished typing the name. If you keep having problems then try to disconnect Sync temporarily.
Does this happen randomly or always when you create a new folder?
Does it make a difference where you create the folder (Library, sidebar, right-click context menu in a drop-down list)?

It happens every time I create a new folder. Thinking about it, It's been quite a while since it hasn't happened and I bet I was not using sync back then. The only way I have ever created a bookmark folder was via Ctrl-D, then choose , then create a new folder. It would make sense what you say about sync acting on the folder to sync it. If that's the case I guess I will have to live with it unless the code can disable sync while the make a new folder menu is up and then re-enable when menu closes.

I was also having problems with bookmarks. This add-on solved my problem, hopefully it will work for you too. I did not use sync though.
