inbox contents moved to trash automatically by Thunderbird.
My wife has an account on Gmail and we are using Thunderbird to access and manage that account. No other email programs or accounts are used or accessed from that laptop. What happens is that when we access Thunderbird, it logs into the Gmail account perfectly, but all the emails, read or unread, that were in the inbox have been moved to the trash folder. We have moved all of them back to the inbox, but when logging back in (I think there was at least 24 hours of inactivity) the emails will all be back in the trash folder. Help

did you put them in the trash in Gmails web interface? These days Thunderbird and Gmail are synchronized for most people using IMAP.
No, they were not moved into the track either on Gmail or in Thunderbird. In Gmail I would expect to have them moved into trash After starting Thunderbird as I know once Thunderbird accesses Gmail that the inbox contents are copied into Thunderbird and moved into trash on Gmail. What is strange for us is that on the laptop the emails in the Thunderbird inbox get moved into the trash without us doing it! Seems like possibly 24 hours or more may have passed, but we aren't totally certain. The thunderbird on our desktop performs perfectly, the the pc is running windows XP and the laptop windows 7.
Right click the folder and select settings.
Which are IMAP accounts? In server settings for those with POP accounts are they leaving messages on the server or deleting them? (not this could be a phone or tablet that has the pop accounts and it may not be Thunderbird)
Both are IMAP, one on the desktop and one on the laptop. Other than that, I have no idea why the Thunderbird on the laptop moved the emails from the inbox to trash on it's own, probably a filter or something. We just uninstalled thunderbird on the laptop and will manually go to gmail.
