when I upgrades to v45 only 13 of 40 tabs were bookmarked and my restore points from yesterday and before were deleted by the upgrade. how do i restore to yesterday's open tabs? note, i had only one group tab before the upgrade as i had deleted all other groups.

You can try to use the upgrade.js-<build_id> file that should have been created with the update to Firefox 45 and replace the current sessionstore.js file. Keep a backup copy of the current sessionstore.js file.

You can use this button to go to the current Firefox profile folder:

You will normally find these files in the sessionstore-backups folder:

previous.js (cleanBackup: copy of sessionstore.js from previous session that was loaded successfully)
recovery.js (latest version of the sessionstore written during runtime)
recovery.bak (previous version of the sessionstore written during runtime)
upgrade.js-<build_id> (backup created during an upgrade of Firefox)

You can copy a file from the sessionstore-backups folder to the main profile and rename the file to sessionstore.js to replace the current file (make a backup copy of the current sessionstore.js).

What do you mean by restore points -- Windows OS restore points, or sessions saved by an extension like Session Manager?

If you check your desktop, do you find an Old Firefox Data folder with freshly updated content inside? That would indicate that the Refresh feature ran, and could explain why an extension would be removed and its data would be missing when you reinstalled it. It might be possible to use the data in that folder to restore the previous session.
