Can't get a mail account hosted by Verio to send mail.
I have two mail accounts hosted by Verio. I currently use Eudora on an XP machine for mail and it still works great, but... with the support for XP going away, I decided to move to a new mail software and a new machine (W8.1). Since Thunderbird integrates nicely with Eudora... perfect match.
I have installed Thunderbird on both machines with this plan for moving the accounts. 1) set up all of the accounts on the XP machine. 2) Move the profile to the W8.1 machine.
First account on Verio was setup - POP3, username, password, etc. I can send mail with this account. I can receive mail with this account. Problem: The second account on Verio server was set up. I can receive mail, but Can't Send mail. Have corresponded for about a week with Verio Support with no answer in sight. I receive the following Error reports when trying to send: First: "Login to server smtp.(domain name).com failed - Retry - Enter new password - Cancel" I tried all of the options, and when I click Cancel, the following error pops up: "Sending of message failed. The message could not be sent using SMTP server smtp.(domain name).com for an unknown reason. Please verify that your SMTP server settings are correct and try again, or contact your network administrator."
I can still send and receive using Eudora, and the other account works fine on Thunderbird. The ports are the same for both. Send and Receive Security Settings are the same for both accounts. I have tried what I think is all of the variables, but no luck.
Any thoughts?

Try to delete the SMTP password Thunderbird has remembered for the account you're having problems with. You'll then be prompted for the password the next time you're trying to send mail.

Thanks for your quick response.
Tried that. It actually asks you to do that when you click the "Enter New Password" option. I have also changed the password on the account... no luck. I uninstalled Thunderbird, deleted all of the Profile files, and reinstalled. I also tried it on three different computers that use XP, W7, and W8.1 I have the latest software for Thunderbird.
When you change the account password you'll also have to reset the password Thunderbird has remembered.
Sometimes "Enter New Password" doesn't work, so you'll really have to delete the existing password first.
When starting with a new profile there shouldn't be any problems though.
Good tip to know. Thanks. You're right, the starting with a new profile I shouldn't have any problems. Still looking for a solution.

check the outgoing server settings for both accounts are correct.
Tools menu (Alt+T) > account settings. Click outgoing server (SMTP) and check that you have two outgoing servers, one for each account. Make sure they are clearly labeled in the list so you can see which is which
Click on the account names in the account list and check that both accounts have different outgoing servers.
If the SMTP accounts are set identically, your looking for something outside Thunderbird for the cause. One thing that has cropped up lately are these "password vaults" various Anti virus products have. Basically man in the middling the password process and messing it up with their old copy of the password.
Matt, thank you for the insights. The folks here have been much more insightful than the people at Verio.
Yes, I've been in the account settings many times and tried a multitude of combinations. I'm sort of "A" type and a video editor, so everything in my world has to be labeled and organized. I always feel that is a must.
I may have stumbled onto something this morning though. I figured that Thunderbird and I were about to part ways (since Eudora still worked) and I downloaded Opera to give it a try. Still no luck on sending, so I tried all of the options. Finally it sent on "Authentication: NONE".
I changed the Thunderbird setting to: "Authentication method: No authentication" and "Connection Security: None". It seemed to work. More tests will be needed, but I may finally be on the right track.. By the way, the other account works when The Auth Method is: "Password, transmitted insecurely". I guess I assumed that since the security methods in Eudora were the same for both, they would be the same in Thunderbird.
Thanks again for the support. I'm looking forward to exploring Thunderbird now.

OK NOW IT GETS WEIRD!
After some time passing. I tried to send again with Thunderbird. It failed, with this response: "An error occurred while sending mail. The mail server responded: authentication required for relay (#5.7.1). Please verify that your email address is correct in your Mail preferences and try again." Tried different settings and they all failed.
Now we get to the weird part. I sent another email in Opera... and it went through. I went back to Thunderbird... and it sent without an issue. I allowed more time to pass... and it wouldn't send again.
I'm really confused now!
