Why aren't some of my extensions updating?

I go to Add-ons -> Extensions and click on 'Check to see if your plugins are up to date'. It shows that my VLC web plugin and Shockwave Flash Player are out of date. When I check, I have the latest version of VLC and Flash Player installed yet they aren't updating in Firefox.

They may need to be updated using your package manager found on your computer (like Synaptic). XFCE Menu => Synaptic Package Manager => Check for updates button => Then mark all upgrades.

Yes, I checked Synaptic and they are both updated and showing the current version numbers.

Oh, yeah the plugin check needs to update, VLC being outdated is their fault, Flash is the checkers fault, please ignore the warnings.

This is a known bug for the VLC Player. The VideoLan Organization has been notified and is currently working on a fix for this bug.

There is a known bug on FlashPlayer also. Firefox developers are aware of it but I am not sure if anything is being actioned yet.
