i'm using Tor Browser. It updates quite regularly. i decide to learn how to export/import settings. i read TOS on Sync and CANNOT believe what i read. You can send my data OUT OF COUNTRY??? Please explain why i even started using Tor if not for privacy/security. The whole concept of the Sync operation appears to be a grand design to have my personal information on a platter??? Why do i need to have my data off my computer in order to put it back on there??? On the face of it -this is outrageous.... perhaps i do not understand fully. Please explain how i can EASILY accept Tor Browser updates without my data - in ANY form - being anywhere else...

hello wuffwuff, this is the general support site for firefox, not the tor browser. first of all please read How do I set up Sync on my computer? in order to understand what firefox sync is.

then it is important to know that this is a feature that's completely optional and won't be enabled unless you actively set up and configure a sync account. even when you do that in order to sync your data between different devices, all the data stored on the server is encrypted by the key only you possess.

for more details, please refer to the part about the Firefox Sync Feature in the firefox privacy policy: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/legal/privacy/firefox.html

TYVM... i did read the part re encrypted, but it was unclear to me that my data would by default be encrypted. The way it read to me was like a 3rd party handoff and i would be on my own in this re. Now, i will bow to your expertise, but i'd also like to know, that if i were paranoid, i could do the 'syncing' myself... it did seem feasible, but a little tedious - if i understood what all i did read. Thank you again for your reply and help.
