Hi, been having this problem for the past couple of days.

Was on google chrome and this message came up

"No data received unable to load the web page because the server sent no data error 324 (net::ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE)"

wireless was connected fine, no firewalls on. connected laptop to modem (i think thats the right word haha not good with computers) with an ethernet cable and the same message still came up.

downloaded firefox on my working laptop and transferred it onto my problem laptop, installed it and the same problem -- website took about 20 minutes to load and when it did it said this

"The connection was reset"

this happens on all websites except google based ones.

have cleared browsing history/data on google chrome, cleaned computer using CC cleaner, restarded laptop, restarted modem.

please help! i have to complete my dissertation and email it in the next couple of days so could really use working internet right now! don't know if its a virus or what.

thanks for reading

I assume this question is about your Mac. Does Safari work?

This can be caused by corrupted cookies.

If clearing cookies doesn't work then it is possible that the cookies.sqlite file that stores the cookies is corrupted.

Rename (or delete) cookies.sqlite (cookies.sqlite.old) and delete other present cookie files like cookies.sqlite-journal in the Firefox Profile Folder in case the file cookies.sqlite got corrupted.

You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder:

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder

You can remove all stored data from a specific domain via "Forget About This Site" in the right-click context menu of an history entry (Show All History or History sidebar) or via the about:permissions page.

Using "Forget About This Site" will remove everything like bookmarks, cookies, passwords, cache, history, and exceptions from that domain, so be cautious and if you have a password or other data from that domain that you do not want to lose then make a note of those passwords and bookmarks. You can't recover from that "forget" unless you have a backup of the affected files.

It doesn't have any lasting effect, so if you revisit such a 'forgotten' website then data from that website will be saved once again.

I assume the Win 7 reinstall is nondestructive, or you have a full disk backup? Your Firefox settings folder currently is under C:\Users and may move to C:\Windows.old\Users after the reinstall. That's based on past threads -- I've never tried it myself.

As a less drastic step, you could try different security software if you think there's an infection. (If necessary, you could download to a USB flash drive on another PC or Mac.) These two tools are highly regarded and the price is right:
