My Thunderbird Version 78.6.1 was installed after harddrive lost data and programs and is now configured with Account Server Settings unchecked for new messages at start up. However, messages are always downloaded at start up. Also, once unchecked in Server Settings there is no OK button to confirm uncheked boxes. I had no problem with the lost Thunderbird version but don't know what version it was. Any help to resolve would be appreciated.

If the account is IMAP, with most mail providers you can't prevent checking at startup, unless you set TB to start offline (Options/General/Network & Disk Space/Offline).

Account Settings are applied when changes are made, or when the tab is closed.

Many thanks sfhowes - you were right about IMAP, your advice worked a treat. Only query is that my ISP and email address has not changed and my previous TB unknown version before pc crash worked ok with unchecked boxes in Server Settings - all part of life's rich tapestry. Thanks again.
