Hi everyone,

I looked for on Google without success. When I'm replying to an e-mail with Thunderbird, it is adding at the beginning of the subject "Re:". How can I stop this behaviour, that Thunderbird does not change the subject when I'm replying an e-mail?

Thank you in advance for your answers,

xXxenos

I don't think it's a recommended practice, but if you right-click a message, Edit As New Message, then adjust the From and To entries, you can reply without the Re.

Hi sfhowes,

Thank you for your answer. Indeed I can change manually each answer I'm writting. But it will be easier to stop this behaviour. Do you know which value to change in the config editor to disable that?

Kind regards,

xXxenos

I'm not aware of a config. preference to disable the Re. There is an add-on that claims to do this, but that particular option doesn't work in TB 60.

Hi sfhowes,

Thank you for your help. Is it a search engine for config. preference where I can look for a such option?

Kind regards,

Located a possible Addon extension: 'Subject Manager'. claims to work with version 60* Suggest you could take a look at this addon. I have not used it, so it is up to you to see if it does what you are looking for. At the link below, image three. Subject Manager > Settings > 'Automatic Prefixes' There is an option 'Remove automatically all automatic prefixes'.

General stuff...For anyone reading this: The indicator 'Re:' stands for "With regard to" so the recipient understands you are replying with regard to a particular Subject. It is not an abbreviation of "reply".

'Menu icon' > 'Options' > 'Advanced' > 'General' tab click on 'Config Editor' button There is a preference in the 'about:config' window called 'mailnews.localizedRe' with which you can add equivalents from other languages, but you cannot use it to remove the reply indicator entirely. This is useful to stop Subjects from becoming cluttered with various prefixes: eg: Re: Antwort: Antw: Re: Subject. So the reply will only show the one 'Re:' General info on 'Reply Indictors:

Manual Options: If an email is new and you do not want a 'Re' to be added then use the right click 'Edit as new message'. This retains the Subject and email contents as is, but does not include the typical reply headers as the email is as if it is a new message.

If you click on 'Reply' then the 'Re' is added to Subject but can be removed manually by editing the subject line.

The config. preferences are listed here.

I installed the Subject Manager add-on in TB 60.5.3, but the 'Automatic prefixes' options don't appear to work as far as removing Re from replies.
