Would like to be able to click the bookmarks icon at top of page and see my bookmarks there instead of having to go into Bookmarks Menu or Other Bookmarks to see them. Recently had to reload Firefox program after some work on my PC and lost this option to simply click the icon on top right side of page to have them "drop down" below the icon. Would appreciate any help or guidance with this. Have Windows 7 operating system.

Can't you click the highlighted star and click the arrow at the far right (i.e. not the arrow in the field that shows the name of the current folder) of the Folder line to move the bookmark to another folder?

The "Edit This Bookmark" dialog that opens if you click the highlighted star has a checkbox with "Show editor when saving" (shortcut key in the dialog is Alt+S). This item is at the bottom just above "Remove Bookmark" and "Done".

You can add the "Bookmarks Menu" button that shows the bookmarks in a drop-down list to the Navigation Toolbar via these steps:

  • click the bookshelf 57 library icon icon on the Navigation Toolbar or alternatively use the Library menu in the "3-bar" Firefox menu button New Fx Menu drop-down list
  • click Bookmarks
  • click "Bookmarking Tools", then click "Add Bookmarks Menu to Toolbar"
The Bookmark Menu button Bookmark Menu icon (star on tray) should appear on the Navigation Toolbar.

You can also drag the Bookmarks Menu button from the Customize palette to the Navigation Toolbar

Perhaps I did not explain the issue quite correctly. I already have the Bookmarks icon on my upper toolbar, top right side. When I used to click that icon, the bookmarks would show directly below the icon in a drop down. Now when I click the icon, I am forced to click the link for "Show All Bookmarks", then they appear under my "Library" box on the left side of the page, which adds a couple of extra steps each time I want to use a saved bookmark. Thank you very much for helping.

If you click this "star on a tray" icon then you should see a list that shows the bookmarks in the Bookmarks Menu folder. In this list is also the Bookmarks Toolbar and Other Bookmarks in a sub menu, so there shouldn't be a reason to go to the Library.

Aren't any bookmarks listed if you click this "star on a tray" toolbar button (third icon in my above reply) that you shouldn't confuse with the Library (bookshelf; first icon in my above reply) icon?

When I click the "star on a tray" i do not see the drop down list; that is my issue. Instead, when I click that icon I see a large box that offers to View Bookmarks Sidebar, Show All Bookmarks as well as links for the Bookmarks Toolbar and Other Bookmarks, plus a couple of other options. Only when I click Show All Bookmarks does the Library box open on the left upper side of the page and I am then able to view and select the bookmarks I want. The Star on a Tray icon itself will not allow me to see any of the bookmarks without those additional steps. Thanks for the help.

If you do not see the bookmarks directly in that drop-down list then it looks that they are not in the main Bookmarks Menu folder.

What folder do you need to open in the Bookmarks Manager (Library)?

Note that bookmarks you create by clicking the star are created in the Other Bookmarks folder, so you need to expand/open this folder in the drop-down list.

You are correct that I must open the library to see all my bookmarks. Since I could not find a solution to load them in a way to where they would simply drop down right below on right-hand side of the page when I click the star (bookmarks) icon, I decided to just load them to my toolbar so I would not have to click a couple of other places to get to them. Not as convenient as I had before with the drop-down, but workable. Thanks to everyone for their help.

I can't move new bookmarks into existing folders. When I bookmark a page it only goes to "recently bookmarked" and I can't move it to a different bookmark folder.

no, the star was not highlighted and nothing happened when I clicked on it. The problem has been solved with a reboot and restart of Firefox. It works now.
