show sender email to detect forged sender
I'd like to have only email address shown in received mails list.
Reason:
detect forged email is easier.
Things that do not work:
-addons, there is none that works with thunderbird 60 and it should be basic feature
-uncheck in options "show only name for who is inaddress book", done and people are not in address book
-open the email and read the sender there, that's known but is not what i asked
Example:
sender: "Posteo Support <[email protected]>" but in the list is only "Posteo Support"
mail from friend that changed his name in google account and sent me test email, sender: "Posteo support <[email protected]>" but again in the list is exactly as the real one: "Posteo Support"
This bypass spf, dkim and maybe also antispam because it's outside their scope
Same apply for s/mime digitally signed emails, there is no column for it, you have to open them one by one to check what is signed and what isn't.
It has been asked so many times in many years
there are multiple, now outdated, plugins for this
Can we have an official answer on why this bacic feature has not been implemented yet in 2018?
also had to type this twice as when i clicked post it said "access denied" and i have lost everything ':/

Show Address Only (recently updated) is working here in TB 60. Have you tried it?
Oh, i missed that it was updated, that was the plugin that i was using. It works, thanks. Any hope to find out why it is not in the main app and we have to use a plugin?
As with other add-ons, it's a feature that is used by a relatively small number of users, and it probably rates as a lower priority compared to more essential developments for the program.
One last thing, why there is a "forbidden icon" on the download of show address only (and also other plugins) the graphics is not clear...
To me it looks like "you can't install because it is compatible only between 3- 65" but i have 60 so it should be compatible (and in fact it is). Another plugin has yellow download button and again the "forbidden icon". another different plugin has only "download" and no icon or required thunderbird version.
Thanks for all answers
The state of add-ons is somewhat in flux as TB 60 comes into wider release. Some are fully compatible, but some might suggest they are not, simply because the author has not made the necessary updates. Best strategy is to set the preference extensions.strictCompatibility to false in Config. editor - which will allow most non-updated add-ons to be installed, but doesn't guarantee they will work properly.
Thanks, for the answer, do i have to close it or change text to [solved]? i marked the answer as "chose solution" i think it's enough. (sorry, first question)
Yes, thanks, everything is complete and no further action is required.
Just installed Thunderbird 60.2.1 as I wanted to move from Outlook and the current scamming email issues I wanted a mail application that offers security by allowing me to see the actual address of the email measge so that I will be confident I know what I am opening This post underlines the requirement but unfortunately the add-on mentioned is not compatible with Thunderbird Just wanted to confirm this essential facility is not available in Thunderbird before I trash it and move on Any help gratefully received Regards TW
The add-on is working here in TB 60.2.1 (see picture). Did you change the preference mentioned above before trying to install it? Tools/Options/Advanced/General/Config. editor, double-click the preference extensions.strictCompatibility to toggle it to false, OK to close Options.
I am very sorry but I did not see this information and I have not configured Mozilla as you advise I will do this and confirm back Thank you
It's so easy when you know how! Thank you for your advice and patience it is installed and working perfectly It's so surprising that the one method that allows a recipient of email a quick and basic double check of the actual source of the message before accepting it as safe would be an "add-on" In Microsoft Outlook I get an obvious phishing message and upon trying to mark as junk Microsoft informs it cannot be sent to junk and quarantined because it is a bogus address! (Makes me wonder just where that organisation stands when considering the security of their loyal customers) Thank you again for your expertise and help, it's very much appreciated
Using an addon is not a suitable answer, the feature needs to be built in and should work across all types of account views.
For years the addon "Show Address Only" worked for me, but since the v60+ TB (which incidentally ruined my email life), the addon doesn't work properly in Unified View - I get blank entries in the columns. There is a fix but I can't remember what I did years ago to make it work/show.
All email programs should be able to show the ACTUAL email address sent to and from in a column by default without having to open or hover over anything. It's the only way to guard against spam and properly be able to see what's what without having do anything except visually scan down the list.
Having to interact with each and every email or drill down into each one is not acceptable. A column showing the real details is the only solution and it should be an inbuilt function of every email program.
Relying on an address book entry, or what someone has spoofed/faked (like "Sales"), is not a workable solution, especially across several email accounts.
Somebody above said it's a feature that is used by a relatively small number of users and therefore suggesting that is why it wouldn't be implemented. That's like saying very few people wore safety belts in cars before it was made law to have them fitted and be worn - I can't see how in the world of so many email scams and frauds that blatantly showing the ACTUAL sender to/from details is not made default/law.
