How do I disable predictive text while composing an e-mail

When I'm composing an e-mail, Thunderbird pops up suggested words as I type. They not only slow down my typing, but often cover what I'm trying to type, so that I have to type without being able to see what's being typed. It's extremely annoying.

It's hard for me to believe that there's not a way to disable this behavior, but I haven't been able to find anything in the support area or on google to tell me how.

Does anyone know how to turn this behavior off?

TB doesn't have a built-in capacity to predict text; it can only flag misspelled words or display corrections when you right-click a misspelled word . You probably have an add-on (look in Tools/Add-ons/Extensions) or external program that is doing this.

I checked and have no extensions or plug-ins installed. You say "external program". What could that be?

What kind of computer are you using?

i.e. desktop PC, laptop, tablet, or some sort of hybrid such as a surface? Are you using a touch screen?

The prediction feature is common in tablets and phones, largely to make up for the deficiencies of touch screen input.

Intel desktop running Windows 10, version 1803 (10.0 Build 17134). Not a surface, no touch screen. Just a big 5 year old development box.

You were right. Windows 10 has a section of Keyboard options. Not easy to find, but they control predictive text. Thanks for the suggestion.

I guess you're referring to the options in the attached picture.
