Current Firefox has a memory leak & hangs at TLS connection.
Firefox 57 has memory leak and hangs at TLS connection. No one has come up with a solution as yet and I am wondering why Mozilla has not responded with a solution. Computer is an HP 24-r014 with plenty of memory.

Try to disable IPv6 (check for other possible causes as well).
You can create a new profile to test if your current profile is causing the problem.
See "Creating a profile":
- http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_-_Firefox#Profile_issues
If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.
