I want to shut down my e-mail address, but continue to keep/use (for reference/replies) the emails I have and their folders.

Is there a way to keep all my e-mails and folders for an account while still totally shutting down the associated e-mail address?

I would like to continue referencing, replying to (using a different e-mail address), and adding new e-mails to the folders as I have them already set up under my old e-mail address.

In sum, is there a way to tell Thunderbird that I want to keep the email address and all its working folders on my computer, but that the e-mail address is no longer live? (What I did to date is put a wrong setting in the e-mail's set up, so it is not connecting to the server--not receiving all the junk e-mails I don't want or accidentally sending any under that address--but then, whenever I open Thunderbird, I have to go through the various error messages of how the e-mail address is not connecting)

Thank you so much for any help you can offer!

Move all your messages into the Local Folders account, and then you can remove the actual account.
