lost bookmarks
a 5 second power outage fried my allegedly surge-protected laptop. my tech guy installed a new hard drive installed and is running a long long program to recover any data on the old hard drive. so far no luck. bookmarks are stored in one's profile, but all i have now is a new profile---that doesnt do me any good. is there any way to access my old profile and recover my old bookmarks? thank you

If that old hard drive is fried beyond access then I'm afraid that your bookmarks and other personal data is lost if you do not have any backups.

thank you so much for this information. it helped me to locate my current profile, which is on my new hard drive. but i need my old profile, which evidently perished along with my old hard drive. i was unaware that the profile is stored on ones hard drive---duh. guess im out of luck. but your links will form the foundation of my new bookmarks, so i truly appreciate your taking the time to reply. all the best!
Look on your desktop. Do you see a folder called; Old Firefox?

no, i do not see such a folder on my desktop.
It is possible that there has been a problem with the profiles.ini file that registers profiles and that a new default profile got created.
You can check that by opening the current profile folder and go up one level.
You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.
- Help -> Troubleshooting Information -> Profile Directory:
Windows: Show Folder; Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder - http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox
Do you see only one profile listed?
- C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\
thank you for your reply. the only profile i can find is a new profile on this new hard drive. but i need the old profile, which is on my old hard drive---which was damaged by the power surge and replaced. i dont think there is any way to access my old profile short of recovering it on the old hard drive, which i cant do.
