When I open Thunderbird, I am on what appears to be "Account Settings". There is a category called "Email" and right under it is "read email". Also to the left is my account and my inbox. However, I cannot click on "read email" nor can I click on "inbox" so how am I supposed to read my messages. It is sort of ridiculous for my mail to open to an account settings page. The main thing I need it for is to send and receive email so it makes much more sense for it to open up to your inbox. I would like to find mine!

Thunderbird opens just like you closed it normally. So be sure you are where you want to be when you close it.

Now to try and fix your situation.

Do you have a Menu Bar with File-Edit-View etc showing at the top of the window? If not press the alt key to make it appear. From the menu bar select View-Layout-Folder Pane

Now select your Inbox folder in the Folder Pane.

It seems odd that you cannot click Read Messages from the Account Settings page. I can click that and have my email list in the Inbox appear. That will not make the Folder Pane appear if you have lost that but you should be able to see your Inbox.

When was the last time you rebooted your computer?
