I have heard that Chromium is a part of Google and that there is embedded code that allows the microphone to be turned on even without the users permission. I understand that even in the new Vivaldi browser it is included with an option to opt out but as we all know that does not really mean much in this day and age.

Is the Firefox Hello basically the same thing as Chromium and has the ability to open/close the camera/microphone even w/o the users permission? This is quite scary to me and I just don't want a part of that.

Thank you for your reply.

No, Firefox has nothing to do with Chromium or Google Chrome.

Firefox Hello is built around the WebRTC standard - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WebRTC - which many browsers support.
