Firefox crashes repeatedly in safe mode and out when I try to visit webpages

more options

Whenever I try to visit webpages, it crashes. Google, sometimes, or anything I click from google, at all. Constantly. As you can see from the crash IDs, it was crashing OVER and OVER and over. pretty much everything is crashing it.

Interesting to note, however, is that the non-internet stuff doesn't crash it. I was able to open the crash reports page, and the help; troubleshooting thing with no trouble.

This is infuriating, as I cannot browse with mozilla at all, and I don't really like chrome.

EDIT: Worth noting, other browsers are not doing this. At least, chrome isn't, I don't have IE.

That is a problem with the BL2011.DLL file.
A Google search suggest that the file may be part of malware (trojan).

Do a malware check with some malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.
You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":

There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.

If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

I disabled all add-ons, plugins, etc, still crashes. In safe mode, too. sometimes crashes when I click the explore add-ons icon. Actually went and did everything in that article I haven't done; I've now done absolutely everything possible in that article and it's still throwing a hissy fit any time I try to open web pages. sometimes I can get google open, but once I click a link, it almost always crashes. I have not been able to have it open for more than a minute.

Cor-el, THANK YOU. So much! I've been using chrome for like 2 weeks now... and I hate it. Maybe it is "faster" somehow, but not in a practical and substantial way; the internet is already plenty fast enough for me. I am so, so happy to get back to mozilla. I was convinced it couldn't be on my end, that something bizarre happened with a firefox update. Microsoft security essentials didn't detect anything... but malwarebites found several instances of the BL2011 file. Thank you so much! It's running great now. I really missed firefox.

As a bit of an aside, how do these sorts of things silently install themselves? I'm reasonably computer literate and such, and I know what not to do on the internet... but it seems like crappy websites are getting really good at sneaking actual executable garbage into your computer; am I doing something wrong? Malwarebites found a lot, and I'm thinking I need to review how to protect myself online... maybe get myself noscript or whatever the latest equivalent is. I hated it a few years back, but I also never found my computer to have anything malicious on it. I got vundo once, last year, and since then it just seems like a lot more of a minefield out here.

But again, thank you! Merry christmas, and such.
