Firefox will not remember passwords
This is really really annoying, it has been happening to me randomly in various sites. Sometimes it remembers the password and/or username and other times it randomly does not! The problem is, it is not only the fact that it used to remember them before, it is the fact that it does NOT ask me if I want to remember them again or not! The passwords just simply do not show up! It has been happening since version 2.0 and now with version 5.0 and still not a permanent fix/solution. Popular websites that this has occurring since I can remember is ebay.com.au Now when I go to options>security the remember passwords for sites is ticked and when I go to 'saved passwords' the username and passwords are correct and saved in! I really do not know what the problem is here...but there needs to be a fix, this has been happening since the early versions of firefox and It is hard to believe it has gone under the radar for so long.

What happens when click or double-click in the username field?
Is the username & password auto-completed or are you offered a list of usernames to select one from a drop-down list (on websites where you have more than one login)?
I can't speak for the original poster, but I have the exact same problem, and 95 percent of the time, I have to fill in completely both the user and password. The other 5 percent, when I begin to type the user name (although I don't have more than one login), it suddenly fills in either (1) just the rest of the user name, or (2) all the info for both fields.
I have looked at my user/password list and removed any duplicates. Thanks for any/all help!
Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
- Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

Hi, When I double click the 'username' field my username comes up, and I also expect the password to auto-fill at the same time, which in most websites it does. However in some it does not, and even though it remembers it, I have to manually enter it every time! Important to note here, that it does not happen all the time. Sometimes the password shows up sometimes it does not! And this is where things get weird because there is no consistency at all...
The website may using autocomplete=off to prevent Firefox from saving and entering the name and password.
Hello everyone, Just downloaded the latest firefox 6.0 and the problem remains, so I am starting to believe there is something else causing it. To your reply 'cor-el' the website is not using autocomplete=off. the reason I know this is because sometimes the password will show up and sometimes it will not. Besides one of the websites having the problem is ebay.com.au. As soon as the username is typed (or selected from a list of multiple usernames) the password should automatically show too! However when I select my username, the password does not show! I HAVE UPLOADED 2 PICTURES SO YOU CAN SEE THE PROBLEM. CHEERS.
It is possible that the submit URL is not constant, but changes some time as the site may be using server balancing and in that case Firefox may not fill the name and password. In that case you would get a remember pop-up or Firefox may be using form fill instead to store the name.
Make sure that you do not run Firefox in permanent Private Browsing mode.
- You enter Private Browsing mode if you select: Tools > Options > Privacy > History: Firefox will: "Never Remember History"
- To see all History and Cookie settings, choose: Tools > Options > Privacy, choose the setting Firefox will: Use custom settings for history
- Deselect: [ ] "Permanent Private Browsing mode"
This is a week old computer running windows 7. Following all the recommendations listed, the issue persists.
