Why is Firefox Browser on Windows PC Freezing up Not Responding Suddenly Today 12/1/23? Nothing will fix it.

Why is Firefox Browser on Windows PC Freezing up Not Responding Suddenly Today 12/1/23? Nothing will fix it.

Solusi terpilih

Unable to perform any of the above instructions or when performed, did absolutely nothing.

Firefox browser is Not Responding when any kind of Bookmark Management is attempted.

Firefox browser only works with no account and no saved personal preferences like bookmarks and logins.

That's a problem Mozilla is incapable of correcting.

The obvious solution is to terminate Firefox and use any other browser.

Does it still happen in Troubleshoot Mode?

more options

Yes. It still happens in Troubleshoot Mode. And after reinstalling. And after rebooting. And after clearing cache, etc. Otherwise I would not be seeking help. Nothing works.

Bookmarks are not imported and are freezing up the browser. How can this be corrected?

more options

Does it still happen in a new profile without signing into Sync or importing bookmarks? An easy way to test a new profile is to install Developer Edition and see if it happens there or refresh your existing profile.

Firefox is freezing up/Not Responding. None of the solutions solve anything.

There is nothing I can do with this information. None of your instructions are intelligible or of any practical use. Not sure you're understanding the problem. Firefox freezes up, won't load properly, won't manage bookmarks. The instructions are impossible to follow and do not address the issue. Why is the browser opening in a restore session error page? Why does it freeze up when clicking on bookmarks? Why is wiping out everything and starting fresh not fixing the problem?

Did you try installing Developer Edition without importing anything?

more options

I did now install Developer Edition. None of my logins or bookmarks are there. Not any kind of solution. I simply want to restore Firefox to what I had working well on 11/30/23. It's hard to believe that nobody understands what I'm having issues with and that all the other reported instances of this problem dating as far back as 2011 have never been addressed or corrected. As of 12/1/23 I have been unable to load bookmarks toolbar or manage bookmarks as it causes Firefox to freeze up/crash/Not Responding. The mass of confusing help and instructions on the topic are simply overwhelming and impossible to follow or even comprehend by an average PC user. I see this kind of issue all over the help forums, community, reddit, etc... No help for anything software or system related.

Once bookmarks and logins are imported and I'm signed into the Mozilla account, Firefox Developer Edition freezes up too. Same thing in troubleshooting mode. Since 12/1/23 Firefox is Not Responding when Bookmarks are accessed. I deleted all bookmarks in every place I could possibly find. I refreshed and reinstalled Firefox. I can only use Firefox without my account. Which means I have no logins or bookmarks stored over 20 years. Chrome still has all my data without freezing up. Edge still has my old data without freezing up. Nobody at Mozilla is able to help. It hurts after 20 years but that's how you want it so goodbye Mozilla Firefox and all of your impossible glitches, hidden settings and zero support.

"You may have to restore an older bookmarks backup in the bookmarkbackups folder via the Bookmarks Manager (Library)."

This is impossible to do as it is the cause of the crashes. Trying to manage bookmarks is what freezes up the browser. The bookmarks are a mess of old and new backups and submenus impossible to make any sense of. "Default release" means nothing to me. Json and CSV mean nothing to me. All the imported bookmarks and logins are old and wrong. The good recent ones freeze up the browser in any mode or version. The about:support screen is nothing an average human can even begin to understand or even need to delve into. What an impossible browser Firefox has become. I've already switched to Chrome from where I am enjoying all of my recent bookmarks and logins with no crashing browser.

All of the below is gobbledegook:

"This could be a problem with the places.sqlite and favicons.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder.

use the "Places Database" -> "Verify Integrity" button on the "Help -> More Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page If errors are reported with "Verify Integrity", close and restart Firefox or reboot and retry.

If "Verify Integrity" cannot repair places.sqlite, rename/remove all places.sqlite and favicons.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder with Firefox closed. Firefox will rebuild places.sqlite and restore the bookmarks from the most recent JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder.

keep a backup copy of places.sqlite in case a new places.sqlite database has to be created you lose the history when a new places.sqlite is created"

Are you able to import bookmarks into the 115 ESR version without freezing?

Do you have any bookmarks in different languages or with special characters?

Before importing bookmarks into a fresh profile, open the Browser Console by pressing Ctrl+Shift+J, then import bookmarks and check the output for errors.

Not able to import or manage any bookmarks on any browser without freezing. Now bookmarks are freezing up Chrome as well. Of course I have bookmarks in different languages and with special characters... for over 20 years! "Before importing bookmarks into a fresh profile, open the Browser Console by pressing Ctrl+Shift+J, then import bookmarks and check the output for errors." This makes zero sense to me. What is the "Browser Console"? Pressing Ctrl+Shift+J doesn't do anything but pop up a useless non interactive red dialogue box I can't do anything with. As stated repeatedly, importing bookmarks immediately causes browser to start freezing again. Why can't I use bookmarks anymore?

Somehow Version 115 is now working well with all original bookmarks and not freezing up...yet...

more options

You could help identify the problem by testing versions between 115 and 120 with mozregression to find the last working version that could import your bookmarks without freezing.

Again, that means nothing to me. I'm not interested in testing unstable browser versions. I want a browser that works right and I want to keep it. Firefox has been failing many users lately. I don't trust Firefox anymore and it's no longer my default browser. I only keep it around just in case. In fact whatever corruption Firefox introduced to my bookmarks is still there and now affecting my other browsers. I'm furious with Mozilla for corrupting my data and limiting my experience.

This sounds like there is something wrong with your system, either at the OS or hardware level. You might need to repair or reinstall Windows.

WRONG. ALWAYS BLAMING THE VICTIM. MY SYSTEM, OS AND HARDWARE ARE ALL OPTIMAL. THE PROBLEM IS CAUSED BY FIREFOX AND CHROME AND CORRUPTED BOOKMARK AND LOGIN FILES. THE ONLY SOLUTION IS TO DELETE AND LOSE EVERYTHING BECAUSE MOZILLA AND GOOGLE AND MICROSOFT ARE AN OUT OF CONTROL MESS WITH NO SOLUTIONS AND NO HELP.
