Since the last update to Firefox, cause it wanted to bugged me NON STOP, every time I restart my PC Firefox act's like it crashed giving me the " sorry. we’re having trouble getting your pages back. " and just not after starting the PC up and letting it sit there I saw a pop up saying Firefox has crashed even tho it was NEVER OPEN, but i guess something in 65.0.2 causing Firefox to run when the system boot that then crashes EVERY TIME. No crash report is saved as far as i can see tho.

Could you try Firefox 66.0.1, but this way:

Clean Reinstall

This takes about 5 minutes. It's not about your settings, it's about making sure the program files are clean (no inconsistent or alien code files). As described below, this process does not disturb your existing settings. It's not essential to uninstall Firefox, but you can if you like, saying No to any request about removing personal data.

(A) Download a fresh installer for Firefox to a convenient location:

https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/

(B) Exit out of Firefox (if applicable).

If you use Microsoft Office, please change your default browser to Internet Explorer temporarily before the next step.

(C) Using Windows Explorer/My Computer (hold down the Windows key and press E to launch it), right-click > rename the program folder as follows (you might have one or both):

C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox =to=> C:\Program Files (x86)\OldFirefox

C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox =to=> C:\Program Files\OldFirefox

(D) Run the installer you downloaded in step (A). It should automatically connect to your existing settings.

Any improvement at your next startup?

Firefox should not run unless you start it. There is an exception on Windows 10 in some circumstances, but your Firefox reported it is running on Windows 7. Just in case: Firefox starts automatically when I restart Windows.

How long do you usually wait after exiting Firefox before you shut down Windows? Firefox may take up to 60 seconds to either shut down normally or detect that it is stuck and crash itself. If you are not allowing a minute, please try that the next time. If you get a shutdown crash dialog, that may help point toward the source of the problem.

Testing a little bit after a reboot it seem that it is saving the old tab's from closing the browser. If I open Firefox right after a boot up the tab's open and it works find but about 30 seconds later I get the sorry. we’re having trouble getting your pages back. It's almost like Firefox is forcing the Restore previous session even tho it is not checked.

This sounds like a bug, it may need to be reported.

Firefox will try to restore the previous session in cases where Firefox didn't close properly the last time you closed it. This is considered as a shutdown/hang crash.

Use one of these to close Firefox if you are currently doing that by clicking the close X on the Firefox title bar.

  • "3-bar" menu button -> Exit (Power button)
  • Windows: File -> Exit
  • Mac: Firefox -> Quit Firefox
  • Linux: File -> Quit

Also make sure you give Firefox enough time to close properly before you shutdown Windows like posted above.

I've given it 5 mins before shutting down still does it even using File -> Exit

It doesn't do it any other time when I close Firefox for say an hour and come back it only seems to do it when windows starts up.

Sounds like you got O/S issue where it doesn't recognize a close command for the Browser window. You should check your startup options to verify what is starting up and disable what shouldn't be running when Windows starts.

It wasn't doing this before 65.0 if I open firefox RIGHT after the PC boot's up it's find still pulls the tabs back up but they at least show up only after a few min will firefox jump to unable to restore instead of just starting a new one.

even if I close firefox and reopen it so it loads the home page once I restart it goes back to trying to load the last tabs.

Maybe check the Windows Event log to see if that shows some detail.

did work on 64 but 63 works just fine so so. Still forced to return to the old tab even tho that IS NOT CHECKED TO DO but it at least found what the tab was.

seems to be working now tho doesn't answer why Firefox is Restore previous session WHEN IT'S CHECKED OFF.

Firefox is slow at loading sites, or gives error messages?

slow to loading the web site, working for now but as to my orginal now I'm getting a pop up saying firefox closed unexpectedly while starting. This after BOOTING the PC and not even trying to open firefox so I guess firefox is trying to open it's self with windows or something

Well, I got to use it once and now nothing loads again chrome is fine tho so it's not my internet. just the firefox..having a meltdown it seems.

On Windows 7, Firefox should never try to start itself automatically. This is where we started the thread, right?

Could you look at your startup sequence and see whether Firefox is in there, or any URL launches that would go to Firefox as your default browser. You also could change your default browser temporarily to see what effect that has.

Microsoft has a tool to review a variety of startup triggers: Autoruns for Windows - Windows Sysinternals | Microsoft Docs

We have had a couple threads where some malware installed Firefox on an unexpected path which it started up for its own use. You might want to supplement your regular security software with some additional on-demand cleaners: Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware.

Not nothing in the startup, never had this problem before till I updated cause firefox wouldn't stop bugging me to since you can't turn it off.

As far as no loading a web site 5 mins later nothing loading no Server not found or Unable to connect Firefox just sit's here and pretends like it wants to be a working browser.
