i just updated firefox and lost ALL of my bookmarks. The answers and solutions provided in your forums have been completely USELESS. Never happened with previous updates. This is unacceptable. Mozilla should be held accountable if this matter is not rectified immediately. Years of bookmarks gone.

None of your suggestions have worked. A professional, responsible organization would have alerted clients BEFORE updating that this was a potential hazard using Mozilla. Notifying us would have provided us the opportunity to backup and safeguard those items important to each individual. For all those who have experienced the same or similar disastrous results, the remedy should be a class action lawsuit. I will look for other options and I suggest others do the same.

Hi reallyupset, it is rare that data is erased permanently in an update, as you know from your experience of updating Firefox about 15-20 times a year these past many years.

Could you confirm what you checked so far?

(1) Restore menu

Any automatic bookmark backups from before the disaster available here: Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer?

If backups are listed but they cannot be restored, that will lead to different suggestions.

(2) No "Old Firefox Data" folder on your desktop

If this folder is missing, most likely Firefox did not perform a Refresh during your update.

Assuming those don't pan out, let's see whether you have other profile folders:

(1) Does the Profile Manager list other profile folders?

To check on that, inside Firefox, type or paste about:profiles in the address bar and press Enter/Return to load it.

This page should list all the profiles Firefox is currently aware of. If you see a profile that is not currently set as default that looks promising, scroll down to it and click the Set as default profile button below that profile, then scroll back up and click the Restart normally button. (There are some other buttons, but I think those are still "under construction" so please ignore them.)

Firefox should exit and then start up using the other profile. Is that the right one?

If there's nothing there:

(2) Did Firefox orphan your old profile folder?

Here's how to check whether there are additional profile folders in the standard location in addition to the one you're using. Start by opening your current Firefox profile folder using either:

* "3-bar" menu button > "?" Help > Troubleshooting Information
* (menu bar) Help > Troubleshooting Information
* type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter/Return

In the first table on the page, click the "Open Folder" button, to launch a new window listing various files and folders in Windows Explorer.

In the Windows Explorer address bar, click the capitalized word Profiles to move up one level in the folder hierarchy. More than one folder here by any chance? Do the files in those folders look like they were last updated around the time of the update?

If you've got any promising looking folders, you can check the bookmarkbackups folder to see the dates on the files there. Anything look recent?
