I used Mozilla Firefox 16.0 and it was yesterday automatically upgraded to 16.0.1. After upgrade all Firefox menus started to flicker. I immediately informed this (mozzilla made me unhappy). I found others having same problem. but found no soplution except downgrade, but automatic upgrade settings will probably upgrade my downgrade to 16.0.1 anyway so I'm stuck!

Today I learned that it is the "hardware acceleration" that causes the flicker:

Why you did not fix this before launching the upgrade? You could have taken off the hardware acceleration in version 16.0.1 and save loosing users. You can take control of my browser as you can cause automatic upgrade. Why not use this feature to point out this malfunction and a way to get a way with it?

<flames up> Why one needs to have a degree in computing and hours of spare time for googling in order to fix problems with browsing experience? <flames down>

Hi pekka,
Sorry you are having problems.

  • Have you tried upgrading your graphics drivers ?

Firefox is used on a variety of devices including consoles phones and various types of Laptop/desktop computer.

Firefox tries to make use of Hardware acceleration where this appears to be available because it speeds things up by allowing the Graphics chip to do some of the work.

Websites have evolved, (some of us may remember the days when they were simply text,) now many provide animations, videos and 3D graphics.

Often if hardware acceleration needs turning off manually in Firefox the problem is not with Firefox itself but with the device it is being used on. In some of these cases the graphics drivers of the device need upgrading and that is the real solution. Normally such an upgrade is simple and free.

P.S. it is possible to disable the automated upgrades to Firefox, but that is not recommended as it may have serious security problems and put your computer and personal data at increased risk.

Many problems are due to not upgrading,
whether that is the browser, or the Operating System and graphics drivers.
