How do I downgrade to a version of Firefox that doesn't crash every twenty minutes?

It seems that about every 20 to 30 minutes, Firefox crashes, and it reset my tabs to an older setting - even if I close out of Firefox and restart it with the tabs I want to keep. I know that some new upgrades turn out to be crap; I just want to go back to a version that doesn't keep crashing. (I keep trying to send reports as well, but these constantly fail.)

It is probably unlikly the problems are caused by the current version of Firefox itself, but more likely some of the associated software. The current version 3.6. has been around for a while and will soon be replaced by an new version; version 4 , which is at the moment in the final stages of testing.
