When deleting an email from inbox, proton mail deletes that email. When moving an email from inbox to local folders, proton mail fails to delete that email. The following is from proton mail support: When you delete a message in Thunderbird, the message will be moved to the Trash folder on the ProtonMail account, this means the message is not permanently deleted, only moved to the Trash folder, and this works.

In the case of moving a message to a local folder, Thunderbird will attempt to permanently delete the message from the source folder (Inbox in your case), and since this is not a supported feature in ProtonMail, the message is retained in the All Mail folder only.

ProtonMail might support permanently deleting messages from folders in the future, however, at the moment we are not able to provide a timeline for when this might happen.

My suggestion is to ask yourself exactly why you are paying for a product like proton mail. Their selling point is end to end encryption. But what does that really mean? For your recipients and your professional appearance in using it. If you send mail to me, all I get is a link to their web site by email and I have to already know the password you set.

I do not consider this email https://protonmail.com/support/knowledge-base/encrypt-for-outside-users/ They do obviously. I consider it being emailed a time limited link. The content is not even going into your recipients archived correspondence.
