Firefox frequently doesn't remember the location of the last download folder

When I download many files, one after the other, I get to choose where the files will be stored. Normally, the last location is pre-selected, which makes sense when downloading similar files.

However, I have recently experienced that the suggested location is quite arbitrary. The circumstances were like this:

  • The target disk is a network drive
  • The last file was saved to a location similar to: \\MYBOOKLIVE\Gosta\FolderA\FolderB\FolderC
  • FolderB has a large number of subfolders (over 300)

Is this because the network drive may be slow in responding, or because there so many sibling folders? Can you fix the problem? Maybe a buffer size needs to be increased?

Best regards,

Gösta Knochenhauer

Check your preferences as to where the downloads go to. Also, are there any add-ons or other programs that help with downloads or where to download?

In the address bar, type about:preferences<enter>. look under Downloads.

Normally, Firefox suggests the last folder chosen, but not in the case I described.

This choice is normally saved in the content-prefs.sqlite file as part of the Site Preferences and can be switched on and off via the browser.download.lastDir.savePerSite pref. I don't know if this also works with a network location.
