Every time I install adobe flash player, it says it was successively installed. But, when I go to try and use it for a music video, it says the video needs for me to install flash player. I've installed flash player multiple times, to no avail. I keep getting the message, I need to install flash player, even though I installed it, and adobe said it was installed successively. What in the world gives??? Can you help? Thank you.

The forum software did not detect your Flash plugin. Can you check whether it is disabled? You can do that here:

orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons > Plugins category

It should be listed as Shockwave Flash. If it's disabled, it will be sorted to the bottom on a grayed out background.

To see whether the Flash player plugin installed to its usual location, check this folder:

C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash {based on Windows 7 64-bit}

You want to find NPSWF32_11_7_700_224.dll

If that file does not exist, you may need to install again. Make sure to specify that you want the player for non-IE browsers.

If it's there but Firefox is not finding it:

(1) You may need to exit and restart Firefox to re-scan for new plugins. (After that, you can use History > Restore Previous Session to get back your most recently used windows and tabs.)

(2) If that doesn't help, the setting to scan the registry for new plugins might have been disabled. You could check here:

(A) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.

(B) In the filter box, type or paste scan and pause while the list is filtered

(C) If plugin.scan.plid.all is not set to its default value of true, double-click it to toggle it back to the default. You might need to exit and restart Firefox to trigger another scan.

If this change doesn't stick, check for a user.js file as described in this article: How to fix preferences that won't save.

Fingers crossed we've solved it somewhere along the line!

hello. I had the same problem and spent HOURS looking at adobe forums before finding the simple answer, above, here ie look at the addons in firefox and "It should be listed as Shockwave Flash."

Can I just say,

why is it called adobe flash on every description ever, until one gets to the list of addons in fiefox, and suddenly it's called SHOCKWAVE....? This is SO STUPID. someone should change it and stop us from so many wasted hours please

ScienceMagic,

I had the same problem you describe, and FINALLY found a solution. If you are still struggling with it, try this.

This solution applies to FF24, but probably works for versions 22 & 23 as well. Mozilla's techs repeatedly state that FF22 and up support / work with Flash. I have reinstalled Flash (11.0.8) each time I've updated FF since 21, and each time I run the updated FF, Flash is dead ("not installed" it says).

Add-ons Manager doesn't give me the option to remove old plugins, just tells me they are disabled. One of those was an old (2007) version (9 ) of Shockwave Flash. On the Mozilla "Manually uninstalling plugins" page they recommend using about:plugins in the address field to find out where plugins are installed (among other things). I discovered this old Flash DLL one folder level up from where the current version is installed, deleted it, and emptied the Recycle Bin.

I rebooted my system, restarted Firefox, went to the Add-ons Manager, and changed Shockwave Flash 11.0.8 to Always Activate - and finally it works.

I am going to email this solution to the techs who haven't thought of looking for an old, but not uninstalled copy of Flash as the source of the problem. It's a really simple fix if you know what it is.
