your help page hasn't been updated for windows 8 yet. I need to know how to find the profiles folder on windows 8 so I can update it with the copy I have taken on my XP machine for the ultimate goal of transferring my bookmarks and passwords from 1 machine to another.

You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder:

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder

The "Application Data" folder in XP/Win2K and the "AppData" folder in Windows Vista and later Windows 7+ versions are hidden folders.

If you have Firefox installed, use

Help > Troubleshooting Information > "Show Folder" button

to go straight to the currently active profile folder.

If you prefer not to access it that way, try pasting the following path --

%APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles

-- into either of these:

  • Windows Explorer path (if Windows Explorer still exists?!)
  • Start menu search box (if you can find a Start menu?!)

Thank you to both cor-el and jscher2000.

the *Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder part worked perfectly and once I turned on the view hidden folders (thanks again cor-el) I was able to copy the contents from the backed up profile into the new profile folder. Problem solved
