On an ASUS Eee Pad Transformer, the backspace on the physical keyboard removes 2 characters unless you hold down shift. This doesn't happen in any other application on the pad. Does anyone else see this or know how to fix it?
I've tried this both on the current release of Firefox for Android and the beta. If I change to the on-screen keyboard, the problem doesn't happen. It only occurs with the physical keyboard. I also have other strange issues with the cursor jumping to different parts of a sentence.
I'm using a newly updated Transformer running Android 3.1.

Opened a bug on the issue. https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=662219
We'll work on getting our hands on one so that we can sort out this problem.
Thanks!
I'm getting the same problems with FF5 for Android on the Asus Transformer.
Android 3.1 Kernal 2.6.36.3-00001-gf377a2b Build HMJ37.US-epad-8.4.4.5-20110527
I have the language set up as English (UK)
We only just got a Transformer in house. Though the physical keyboard is on backorder. Hopefully that will clear shortly and we will resolve the issue.
i have the same problem, with backspace removing 2 char. but i have another problem ! The keyboard is not not good ! I select in the conf of firefox Automatic detection for the language, but the kezboard seems qwerty . In my system and all other application i have the FR-CH keyboard working fine qwertz but onlz in firefox the kezboard is not correct Olivier
Same problem with es-ES keyboard (physical) on ASUS EEE Pad Transformer. Firefox and Firefox Beta. Keyboard layout is english even if i have everything in es-ES, and backspace deletes 2 chars, this just happens on firefox. Please fix this.
One of our developers just got a Transformer. Some progress has been made at reviewing what is wrong. If the fix is completed in time it will be reviewed for possible inclusion in Firefox 6.
Great news! Let me know if there is a beta I can download in the future.
It sees the backspace issue is now workin fine in Firefox 6.0, although the language issue is still there. just english layout and i have an es-ES keyboard :S anyway thanks for fixing the other issue, it was insane.
I hav english (UK) keyboard, and it too has incorrct key mapping for selected characters (for instance @ is shift 2, marked as "....) Took me a while to type that, but its correct. Does it always default to us-english layout?
Yes, that is https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=669361 mentioned in the release notes.
Firefox 7 will be the first release with the backspace issue fixed. It can be downloaded from the Android market by searching for "Firefox beta" and installing the beta.
This is fixed in 7.0. Thanks so much! Now all they have to do is fix the out of order character issue when typing quickly and we'll be set.
There is a fix coming in Firefox 8 (scheduled to be released as beta near the end of September, and as a final release in November) that might fix the problems with typing fast:
Great. I saw the patch. I'm looking forward to it.
God, the character misplacement is annoying as hell. I type really fast on my transformer and I have to slow myself way down. Can't you guys get a patch out sooner? Like today?
