? Process ICS file link directly into Thunderbird calendar, without saving the ICS file first ?
SEE attached annotated SCREEN-SHOT file (Tbird ICS file process.jpg)
Is there any way to process this .ICS file ... "Upcoming Appointment (4).ics" ... directly into the Thunderbird calendar as soon as I click on the link-phrase "Add to calendar" ... without having to save it first and ... then double-click on the saved file ???

Perhaps you could advise why you are getting such files in a web browser.
It appears you have an online calendar, why not just subscribe to it using caldav and let Thunderbird tell you about your upcoming appointment?
Matt -- Thanks for your reply. I'm not familiar with 'caldav'.
The screenshot shows (on the left) a web page from my healthcare provider (Kaiser Permanente) and information about an upcoming appointment, with a clickable link "Add to calendar".
When I click on that link, it opens a "Save As" window (shown on the right); if I save the file, then double-click on the saved file, ... that starts the "Add to calendar" process, which adds the appointment to my Thunderbird (Lightning) calendar.
My want is that clicking on the "Add to calendar" link would start the "Add to calendar" process directly, without having to save the file & double-click on the saved file.
In Windows-10, under "Choose default apps by file type", the .ICS file type is defined as "Thunderbird (Calendar) Document".
