Re : Thunderbird Mail
Hello. I have recently been experiencing lots of problems with Thunderbird E-mails. Often I am unable to send any mails at all. Although the in-box seems to work OK. Checked with my ISP yesterday ( Talk Talk ) and was advised they no longer support Tiscali E-mails ! However, that later turned out to be incorrect. Apparently they still support Tiscali - but only for existing telephone and broadband customers like me. However, I am advised to change my account settings from POP 3 to IMAP. ( not quite sure why ! )
If I am to change the settings to IMAP could someone please let me have some simpole and easy-to-follow steps for an " oldie " like me so I don't make any mistakes. Also, please could you confirm that if I make the switch I will still be able to keep my existing tiscali.co.uk E-mail domain name ? I want to retain that E-mail address in any event. Is that possible ?
Finally, I would want to copy a couple of hundred incoming and out-going E-mails to the IMAP account, or, if not possible, then I would need to make a back-up copy of two or three hundred incoming and out-going E-mails which are already on Thunderbird but I don't know how to go about this. Could someone please send me some easy-to-follow instructions,
I have to say that all of this seems very complicated just to change from POP 3 to IMAP in order to keep Talk Talk happy ! I don't use multiple accounts and would prefer to stick with POP 3. Help and advice please on what to do.
Many thanks. SG.

It always seems to be the default response - change to IMAP. IMAP will probably confuse you as it does not operate int he same way as POP and it does not change the SMTP settings.
You cannot simply swap the server settings. You would have to create a new existing mail mail account , but set it up as IMAP. IMAP does not work like POP. Suggest you have a read of the following to get some idea on how IMAP works before going down that route,

Hello again Toad-Hall and any other Helpers out there in cyber-space !
All seems to be working OK again and still using my existing POP3 settings with Thunderbird. However, I still occasionally notice that when sending E-mails a message pops up with an error code TT1602 " too many messages " as reported once before on here. Then my E-mail does not get sent. But now I found a " fix " for this by simply turning off my AVG Secure VPN and then " hey presto " the E-mail gets sent immediately. So obviously there is a " clash " between Thunderbird or Talk Talk and AVG. But no worries, unless anyone can suggest a better " fix."
My latest problem has just started after I up-dated my Firefox Browser to the latest version which is 89.00. I just KNEW I should have left it at the previous version which was 88.00. Now, after installing the up-date, when I try to enter a search term item in the long search box beneath the Firefox logo, whatever I am typing simply " jumps " to the smaller search box near the top of the page. I type a question into the large search box beneath the Firefox logo, but it defaults each time to the smaller search box about an inch from the top of the page. I don't like this. I hate all these " up-dates " on Firefox which suddenly change the layout from what I have grown used to. Does anyone know how to re-set things so that I can type my searches into the large box below the Firefox logo like before ? I don't understand what the large box / search bar is there for, if it won't accept anything I type into it ! I thought to simply use " System Restore " to get back to the previous version of Firefox, but it does not work. Each time I tried this, I get a green screen with the message " We are initialising System Restore and Saving your Settings " - or something like that - but then the screen " sticks " at that and nothing else happens. The " System Restore " does not work. Can anyone suggest a solution ?
Many thanks.
SG.
